Senegal (Fulani People)

Our partnership is actively supporting the Tyrannus School ministry, which plays a critical role in equipping and empowering Fulani believers. Despite facing intense, ongoing persecution for their faith, these dedicated individuals are receiving deep theological and practical training. Once they graduate, they courageously return to their home communities, enduring substantial risks to share the Gospel and make disciples among their own people.

This partnership builds directly upon our long-standing desire to reach and support the Fulani people. In the past, this commitment took the practical form of purchasing seed so the Fulani could grow grass to feed their livestock, demonstrating Christ's love by preserving their traditional pastoral livelihoods. Today, that investment has matured from meeting physical needs to fostering deep spiritual development through the strategic work of the Tyrannus School.

  • The Plight of the Fulani

    • Climate & Land Loss: Desertification forces nomadic herders south, triggering fierce competition with settled farmers over shrinking water and pastures.

    • Communal Violence: Resource friction has escalated into deadly ethnic and religious clashes, mass displacement, and retaliatory cycles.

    • Marginalization: Isolation and low literacy levels exclude many Fulani from formal education, legal rights, and political representation.

    • Extremist Exploitation: Security vacuums allow jihadist groups and bandit syndicates to exploit local grievances and recruit vulnerable youth.

    • Stigmatization: Widespread profiling paints peaceful herders as criminals, driving many into urban slums and eroding their cultural identity.

    Spiritual Status & UPG Challenges

    The Stats

    • Population: 25–40 million across West and Central Africa.

    • Religious Demographic: 99% to 99.9% Muslim.

    • Evangelical Presence: 0.00% to 0.05%; classified as a Frontier People Group with no self-sustaining church movement.

    Key Barriers to the Gospel

    1. Identity Bond: Islam is entirely fused with Fulani heritage; leaving the faith is viewed as betraying one's family and ancestors.

    2. Social Cost: Believers face severe family hostility, complete economic ostracization, and immediate expulsion from the community.

    3. Folk Islam: Scriptural engagement is complicated by a syncretic worldview that blends orthodox Islam with animism and protective charms.

    4. Nomadic Mobility: Constant movement complicates long-term discipleship, requiring highly specialized oral-based audio resources in local Fulfulde dialects.

    5. Conflict Walls: Geopolitical violence between Muslim herders and Christian farmers has built massive barriers of deep-seated ethnic prejudice and distrust.
